EPISODE 3 – I CONFESS MY SINS
SATURDAY 5th NOVEMBER 1995
INT. THE RUE RESIDENCE, LIVING ROOM — MORNING
A peaceful, sunny morning and a clear blue sky, and as usual mother and I are waiting on sister and brother to get ready.
My day is going to be… insightful.
Going to see my uncle and aunt—
My gut wrenches every time I think about it.
I’m nervous of what they will say to me…
Maybe I’m just over thinking it.
RAKAYA: Guys come on!
CHRISTABELLE: We’re coming mommy! I’m trying to put my shoe on.
RAKAYA: Come let me help you.
GABRIEL: Where are we going?
RAKAYA: Anabelle wants to visit her uncle and aunt, and it’ll be good for us to get to meet them as well.
CHRISTABELLE: Cool. I hope they aren’t boring.
ANABELLE: I can introduce you guys to my baby cousin Juliet. You guys will get along just fine.
GABRIEL: Is she into girly stuff? Because I don’t want to be do girly stuff.
ANABELLE: No she’s not. She is quite mature for her age and above all that childish stuff. She does play a bit of basketball—
CHRISTABELLE: I don’t play basketball.
GABRIEL: I can try a bit of basketball, but I don’t want to lose to a girl.
CHRISTABELLE: Ugh… you’re such a boy. Besides, you always lose to me. [taunt]
RAKAYA: Come on, less chat. More haste.
Bringing these guys along will sure be good.
However, I do want to have a one-to-one with uncle and aunt, and a heart-to-heart with Janet.
I really want to repair my relationship with them all.
I am to blame for all the problems I’ve caused, and I hope that this reunion doesn’t escalate into something negative.
I… just have a lot of explaining to do.
RAKAYA: How are you feeling?
ANABELLE: Good, but slightly anxious. I’m just thinking through the things that I’m going to say and possible scenarios.
RAKAYA: Don’t over think it. Just let the moment flow naturally and relax. Inhale… and exhale… Inhale…
CHRISTABELLE: Mommy… you’re not doing yoga again?
RAKAYA: Get in the car Chris!
CHRISTABELLE: [sassily] Well come on. I don’t have all day—
RAKAYA: Excuse me!
RAKAYA: Let’s go before we get stuck in traffic. I told your uncle that we’d be there before eleven. I want to make a good first impression so I want you all to be on your best behaviour.
They exit the house, enter the car and set off on their journey.
